Abstract

Jean-Joseph Rabearivelo is a Malagasy poet who confused life with poetry. Although he led the life of a galley slave, he tried to enjoy life and, in his ownwords, to gather its fruits. By creating his own legend, this poet has become one of the most talented writers of his generation. However, in his approach, one could detect an ambivalence. For having loved life too much and lucking the necessary resources, he found it difficult to satisfy his hedonistic and epicurean project and finally loved death. Moreover, the death of his daughter, in connection with his existential difficulties, makes him a hysterical and leads him to the reason why the poet was able to carefully describe the circumstances of his suicide which it possible to identify the thoughts of the Malagasy poet of being a being inclinined to a life of enjoyment in the sense of suicide. This suicide is to be interpreted as the other side of his success in living his life to the full. It is the office of a testament. Moreover, through Mauronian psychocriticism, it was possible to spot the poet’s thoughts of being inclined to a life of enjoyment in the epicurean sense of the term.
